The Guthrie County Fair is under way in Guthrie Center. The annual Labor Day weekend tradition began on Wednesday, September 2 and runs through Monday, September 7th.
Guthrie County Extension Director Shelby Van Horn says having a fair that is so late in the season actually can be an advantage for youngsters showing projects.
The livestock shows include the Swine, sheep and goat and horse shows on Friday…Saturday the poultry and rabbit shows will be held and on Sunday the beef and open horses shows are scheduled. County Youth Coordinator Rachel Muir says livestock numbers are up this year.
Other highlights include the free carnival rides each day, a 5K run and parade on Saturday, Fair Queen Brooklyn Haines will be introduced on Sunday and the parade of champions and livestock auction will be held on Monday. Van Horn says the fair allows youngsters to showcase their hard work.
Grandstand events include the Grand River Rodeo on Friday, The Figure 8 Races on Saturday and the Nag Races and Tyler Richton & the High Bank Boys on Sunday.
Admission is $15 at the gate or a weekend pass for $35.
