DNR finds increased interest in outdoor activities

The Iowa D-N-R is finding more and more people interested in hunting and trapping and other outdoor activities. D-N-R wildlife biologist Vince Evelsizer says they’ve noticed interest in a lot of their programs.

Evelsizer the interest is coming from all age groups and could be driven by media attention.

Evelsizer says it started during the pandemic where more people were looking to get away from everything and started exploring the outdoors.

The D-N-R offers courses in hunting and trapping and a variety of other outdoor pursuits. Evelsizer says there’s a lot of instructional videos available online as well, and you can put in as much time as you want.

He says you can also try to find a mentor that’s willing to spend time and go with you and teach you some of the skills.

Evelsizer says it’s not easy to find someone like that. He says you can go to the D-N-R’s webpage to see the courses they offer on the outdoors.
