Creston Police change policy on reporting arrests and incidents

(Creston, IA) – The Creston Police Chief says changes are being made to how police reports are shared with the media and the community. Chief Cameron Hale, as of Thursday, April 2nd, the Creston Police Department “Will no longer be providing a weekly activity report summarizing calls for service, enforcement activity, and notable incidents.

Chief Hale says “This change comes after careful evaluation of how we communicate with the public. While transparency remains a priority,” the Chief says “We recognize that daily reporting of individual arrests, especially in a small community, can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, unnecessary harm to individuals and families, and does not always reflect the full scope of the work being done by our officers.”

Hale says the goal of the Creston Police Department, “Is to provide information that is meaningful, accurate, and respectful, while still keeping our community informed.” He says, “We will continue to share information about significant incidents, public safety concerns, and situations where public awareness is important.” Hale added, “We remain committed to building strong relationships within our community and serving with professionalism, fairness and respect.”

What this means to KJAN listeners and our followers on social media, is that there will likely be fewer reports coming out of Creston with regard to arrests and accidents, unless the information is significant enough that the Creston P-D deems it newsworthy.
