Cass County Supervisors dealt with a number of items at their Tuesday, September 1st meeting.
The board pledged support for the project to expand the Nishna Valley Family YMCA by approving a $5,000 contribution from Local Option Sales Tax revenue. The expansion, is part of the Vision Atlantic project, backed by the Charles E. Lakin Foundation.
YMCA Director Dan Haynes told the board that a prior donation by the county was specifically for child care. They need a donation to the YMCA portion of the project as part of a one million dollar CAT grant application.
Also, the board approved a resolution to increase speed limits on select county roads.
Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken said a study found that some sections should have lower limits than the 60 mph speed that took effect July 1st.
Glendale Road from Iowa 148 east to the Adair County line, Oxford Road from Highway 71 east to 690th Street and 590th Street from Iowa 92 north 1 1/2 miles to the end of the pavement will all have 45 mph limits.
They expect to put up the new signage soon.
And, Supervisors approved a proclamation naming September as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.
Karmen Roland of Cass Health Senior Life Solutions presented the proclamation and invited everyone to participate in the 8th Annual Suicide Awareness Community Walk scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Atlantic City Park.
