Cass County Conservation will POSTPONE our 9/11 Day of Service volunteer event on September 26th from 1-4pm at Pellett Memorial Woods (63066 Troublesome Creek Rd) to our rain date September 27, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Thousands of volunteers from communities across Iowa will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by joining in acts of volunteer service as part of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, commonly known as 9/11 Day.
The Cass County Conservation Day of Service initiative is made possible through the Day of Service Training & Implementation Fund, a program coordinated by Volunteer Iowa and funded through AmeriCorps. This grant program is designed to build the volunteer capacity of local nonprofits and government organizations. Participating groups receive training in volunteer engagement, develop strategic volunteer management plans, and collaborate with other organizations, culminating in shared service efforts on and around September 11.
Cass County Conservation will host a 9/11 Day of Service volunteer event on September 26th from 1-4pm at Pellett Memorial Woods (63066 Troublesome Creek Rd) focused on natural resource preservation through the removal of invasive honeysuckle bushes. Volunteers will work alongside conservation staff to clear targeted areas, helping restore native plant habitats and improve the long‑term health of the local ecosystem. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for outdoor work—wearing long pants, long sleeves, and gloves—and to bring loppers if available. Snacks and drinks will be provided. A rain date is scheduled for September 27, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. This hands-on conservation project fosters environmental stewardship, supports habitat restoration, and promotes community involvement in caring for Cass County’s natural spaces in recognition of the 9/11 Day of Service. This project not only provides meaningful service to local residents but also introduces new volunteers to the organization and the important work we do year-round.

September 11th was designated a National Day of Service by Congress in 2009 and is led by AmeriCorps, the federal agency for volunteerism and national service. AmeriCorps partners with 911Day.org, the nonprofit that, along with 9/11 families, began the 9/11 Day observance more than a decade ago and engages hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses nationwide.
