(Atlantic, IA) – The Cass County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting at 9-a.m., on Friday, June 5th in their Board Room at the Cass County Courthouse, in Atlantic. During the meeting, the Board will, according to the agenda, “Consider/Approve the Auditor’s request for an Administrative Audit of the Primary Election’s [for the] Atlantic 3 precinct, pursuant to the Code of Iowa and Iowa Administrative Code (sections 50.50 and 721-21.25, respectively).
Code section 50.50 allows the county commissioner responsible for an election to initiate a recount without requiring a candidate to post a bond, specifically when voting equipment malfunctions, programming errors are suspected, or counting errors are identified after the canvass. Section 721-21.25, The rule details the procedure for when a county commissioner suspects voting equipment was defective or requires an administrative recount.
