Blooming Prairie Hike; Stand-up Paddleboard demo set for late July near Lewis

(Lewis, IA) – The Cass County Conservation Board has scheduled a Guided Blooming Prairie Hike as well as Stand-Up Paddleboard demonstration for later this month (July). There is no charge to attend those events.

The Guided Blooming Prairie Hike will take place July 18th beginning at 1-p.m., and will be held at the Outdoor Education Classroom Shelter, near Massena (76977 Tucson Road). You’re invited to join Cass County Naturalist Lora Kanning for a hike in the prairie, and explore blooms throughout the numerous prairies inside the park.

The Cass County Conservation Board will host a “Stand-Up Paddleboard” demonstration, July 25th, at the Cold Springs Park Beach near Lewis. The programs will be held at 9- and 10:30-a.m. After the demonstration, you can try out the boards for yourself. Paddlers must weigh less than 250-pounds, and children must 16-years of age or older. There are 5 spots open at 9-a.m., and 5 spots at 10-30-a.m.

Kayaks will be available for checkout at the same time. The Conservation Department has 4 sit-in kayaks available for persons weighing less than 250-lbs, and three sit-on-top kayaks available for persons under 395-lbs.
