(Atlantic, IA) – The Atlantic Community School District’s Board of Education, during their regular monthly meeting this (Wednesday), acted on approving recommendations to hire: Heidi Hennen, as School Business Official (SBO), Fall Coaches and Club Sponsors.
Their meeting began with a moment of silence to remember 2026 Atlantic High School graduate, 17-year-old Lucy Cohrs, who died June 28th, following an automobile accident in Adair County.
Other action items approved by the Board included proposals for:
• 2026-2027 Sports Medicine and Athletic Coverage
• An HVAC unit for classroom at Washington Elementary
• 8th grade student participation in high school athletes
They discussed the sale of a Building Trades student-constructed project home at 1014 E. 3rd Street Place, and approved the sale of the home. The Board of Education determined the property will be sold by a local realtor, chosen from bids submitted for their services.
The Board also approved all but two of the Open Enrollment applications as presented. The Atlantic School Board’s next regular meeting, is at 6-p.m on August 12th, in the High School Media Center.
