(Atlantic, IA) – Officials with the Atlantic Police Department, late Monday night (June 1st) announced an investigation that began January 19th, 2026, following allegations by a (now former) Atlantic Community School District employee of inappropriate behavior, has resulted in the filing of formal charges. 34-year-old Jesse McCann, of Greenfield, turned himself-in to the Cass County Jail, on Class-D Felony charges of Grooming, and Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee. He was being held on a $50,000 cash bond. The A-PD news release said worked alongside the Iowa Attorney General’s Office throughout this investigation.

As previously reported, the complaint alleged that Jesse McCann had engaged in inappropriate contact, communication, and interactions with female students. He was fired from the Atlantic School District in March, and his teaching license was revoked. Last month, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for McCann, who is also accused of inappropriate behavior with a 9-year-old child in Stuart that allegedly occurred Nov. 15, 2016. He was taken into custody, plead not guilty to those charges and was released on bond. An arraignment hearing in his Guthrie County case is set to take place June 15th.
