(Atlantic, IA) – Officials with Atlantic Municipal Utilities (AMU) today (Thursday), announced that Matt Klein has been appointed the organization’s next General Manager, succeeding longtime GM Steve Tjepkes. Klein will assume the role immediately, while Tjepkes transitions into a new position focused on special projects until his planned retirement.
Klein is no stranger to AMU. He previously served the utility as IT Coordinator, where he played a key role in strengthening AMU’s technology systems and supporting operational efficiency. For the past decade, he has served in South Dakota as General Manager of Union County Electric Cooperative, gaining extensive leadership experience in utility operations, strategic planning, and community engagement.

Tjepkes, who has served AMU with distinction for decades, will remain on staff to support key initiatives and ensure a smooth leadership transition. His work on longrange planning, system upgrades, and organizational development will continue to benefit AMU as he shifts into his new role.
Klein expressed enthusiasm for returning to Atlantic and stepping into the General Manager role. “AMU has a long history of serving Atlantic with reliability and integrity,” he said. “I’m honored to return to this organization and work alongside our talented team to build on that foundation.”
