Atlantic man arrested on felony weapon charges

(Atlantic, IA) – An investigation into an incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Atlantic, resulted in the arrest of a man on felony weapon, and other charges. The Atlantic Police Department reports 28-year-old Resty Helson, of Atlantic, was charged with Intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and going armed with intent (Both Class-D felonies), reckless use of a firearm (an aggravated misdemeanor), and Contributing to the delinquency of a minor (A simple misdemeanor).

Authorities say the Cass County Communications Center received a third-party call about a dispute at 206 W. 11th Street in Atlantic, at around 12:37 p.m., Tuesday (Aug. 11). The caller indicated a firearm may have been discharged. During officers’ initial investigation, they made contact a vehicle traveling in the area that had been identified as potentially being involved in the incident. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently identified as Resty Helson.

Multiple search warrants were executed during the criminal investigation, and the recovery of two firearms concealed behind a residence, resulting in Helson’s arrest. Atlantic Police were assisted in their investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
