(Elk Horn, IA) – The internet has its share of “trolls,” but a different kind of troll can be found lurking near the Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn. The mythical creatures are part of the Danish-American experience, as well as the ongoing connections between Denmark and the United States.
The Museum is helping a troll”immigrate” to the historical venue. Museum Interim Executive Director Erik Andersen says the troll being crafted by Danish recycle artist Thomas Dambo and his team, is more than a sculpture. (picture: Thomas Dambo Troll – Image via the Museum of Danish America)

It is a work of art that embodies creativity, sustainability, and storytelling, capturing the spirit of discovery and imagination that defines both Danish and Danish-American culture.
The troll being constructed at the Museum is not your typical garden décor variety troll.
Construction of the huge troll began April 6th.
Each one of the trolls is unique. They have their own name and “mission,” and story. Visitors to the Museum of Danish America can watch the Troll come to life, but are being asked to maintain a “respectful distance,” as there is heavy machinery in operation as part of the construction process.
The budget for the project is a little more than one-half million dollars ($500,000). Andersen said the Mike and Lou Howard Foundation played an instrumental role in helping to reach the funding objective.
