Second District congressional candidate Lindsay James made a campaign stop in Mason City last (Wednesday) night, as her Republican opponent Joe Mitchell appeared at a Make America Healthy Again rally in a Des Moines suburb. James, a Democrat from Dubuque, says the next congress will be taking important votes on federal health care spending.
James says one of her priorities would be renewing tax credits that about 21-thousand middle income Iowans used to buy private insurance on the Affordable Care Act marketplace. James says Medicaid cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill that take effect in January should be reversed, too.
About 19 percent of Iowans are enrolled in Medicaid. Government-funded Medicaid and Medicare account for about 60 percent of patient revenue for Iowa hospitals. Libertarian candidate Rick Stewart and independent candidate Dave Bushaw are also on the ballot in the race to replace Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, who is running for Iowa’s open U-S Senate seat.
