(Atlantic, IA) – Atlantic & Marne Fire along with Cass EMS were dispatched to a barn fire w/visible flames at 61344 Boston Road. The call went out at 4:43-a.m. Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel said when they arrived, the barn had mostly collapsed on itself. He said in talking with the owners, they learned there had been some electrical issues.
The barn, which housed about 150 chickens, was a total loss, along with some equipment.
While an electrical issue appears to have been the cause, an official determination has not been established.
None of the firefighters were injured. Crews remained on the scene for about 35-to-45 minutes making sure there were no hot spots.
