(Updated 8:13-a.m.) 1 injured another killed in a head-on NE IA crash

(Cedar Falls, IA) – A head-on collision between two SUV’s in northeast Iowa’s Black Hawk County, Sunday, left the driver of one of the vehicles dead, the other injured. The Iowa State Patrol report the crash happened at around 7:34-p.m. on Highway 20 eastbound, on the southwest side of Cedar Falls.

The Patrol says a 2017 Nissan Rogue driven by 50-year-old Tracy Geraldine Leytem, of Cedar Rapids, was traveling east on Highway 20 just west of the Avenue of the Saints, when for reasons unknown, it crossed the center line of the highway and struck a westbound 2025 Chevy Equinox. The driver of the Chevy, 23-year-old Abby Hamann, of Grundy Center, was injured in the crash.

Both drivers – who were wearing their seat belts – were transported to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo, where the Tracy Leytem died from her injuries.

The crash remained under investigation.
