Zach Lahn (like “LANE”), the Republican running for governor, says Governor Reynolds has done a great job negotiating to have a steel plant built in southeast Iowa.
The legislature is set to convene Friday to consider a plan to award over a BILLION dollars in tax credits for the project. Lahn told reporters he cannot comment on the exact amounts of what’s to be offered.
The Esser (S-R) Group, which is based in India, says about six-thousand people would work on the project during the construction phase and 17-hundred would be employed at the plant once it’s operating. Lahn has said the state should end tax breaks for foreign corporations, but he told reporters last (Wednesday) night this project is a worthy exception.
Lahn says the state can’t just say no to this project.
