Juveniles faces charges in connection w/graffiti vandalism

(Stuart, IA) – Officials with the Stuart Police Department reported on the Department’s Facebook page, Tuesday night, that two juvenile females face charges in connection with the spray painting of graffiti on the walls and signs outside the Stuart Aquatic Center. Authorities say “Unfortunately, the Aquatic Center was just one of many locations targeted.”

During the late evening hours, Monday, blue spray paint was used to vandalize property throughout Stuart, including stop signs, real estate signs, mailboxes, vehicles, buildings, and portions of the roadway. Stuart Police says that type of vandalism “is extremely disappointing and has a real impact on our community. Many of those affected may not have the financial means to easily repair or replace the property that was damaged.”

The Stuart Police Department began investigating the incidents Tuesday morning and identified two juvenile females responsible for the vandalism that afternoon. The juveniles were later interviewed and admitted their involvement in the incidents. They will be referred to juvenile court on charges of Criminal Mischief. Because the suspects are juveniles, their identities will not be released.

Authorities in Stuart says if residents or business owners discover additional property that was spray painted and have not yet reported it, please contact the Stuart Police Department at 515-523-1896 so the damage can be documented and included in the case.
