(Guthrie Center, IA) – The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says an 8-year-old by suffered minor facial injuries when the vehicle he was a passenger in collided with a cow on July 18t, south of Guthrie Center. Authorities say a 2015 Ford Edge driven by 33-year-old Taylor Irene Holmes, of West Des Moines, was traveling south on Highway 25 at around 9:40 p.m. The headlights of a passing vehicle traveling northbound toward her SUV caused Holmes not to be able to see a black cow that was standing in Holmes’ lane of travel, and owned by Dylan Robson, of Guthrie Center.
The SUV struck the cow, causing an estimated $10,000 damage. Following the impact, the vehicle entered the west ditch. Authorities said the child passenger in the back seat was not wearing a seat belt, and suffered a minor injury. He was treated at the scene by a Panora Ambulance crew. The cow was valued at $8,000.
