JOINT FORCE HEADQUARTERS – DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa National Guard will host the first of two welcome home ceremonies in the Cedar Rapids area to honor Soldiers returning from deployment in support of Operation
Inherent Resolve. In a news release Wednesday afternoon (April 1st), officials said more than 200 Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division are currently returning home as part of a phased redeployment from the Middle East. Approximately 200 Soldiers from this wave are now back in the
United States after serving alongside coalition and regional partners to reduce the capabilities of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
The first welcome home ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 2 in Cedar Rapids.
Arrival Information:
Soldiers are scheduled to arrive at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at approximately 12:10-p.m. Thursday, April 2nd. Family members, friends, community leaders, and Iowa National Guard leadership
will gather to recognize the service and sacrifice of these Soldiers and their families. This ceremony is part of a continued phased return of forces based on mission requirements, personnel needs, and transportation availability.
Additional Soldiers remain deployed in the Middle East supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, and a second ceremony in the Cedar Rapids area will be announced in the coming days.
