Honor Flight leaves eastern Iowa for DC

(Radio Iowa) – The 58th Eastern Iowa Honor Flight took off this (Tuesday) from the Eastern Iowa Airport this morning for Washington, D-C with around 90 veterans on board. Air Force veterans Pat and Jerry Hankins told K-C-R-G T-V their daughter-in-law submitted their names two years ago. “I have been looking forward to this for more than a couple of years. I had known some other people that had gone on this trip,” he says.

Jerry says they told him it was a good experience. “They had expressed the emotional aspect of being connected with, the Honor Flight and going and visiting the memorials,” Hankins says. Pat Hankins was also looking forward to the flight. “It’s an honor, and it’s exciting to see that there’s so many people that are representing the military, even though it was many years ago, but it was still, and it’s something we’re all very proud of,” she says.

The Honor Flight is expected to return to the Eastern Iowa Airport Tuesday around 9 p-m.
