Home explosion under investigation in Pott. County

(Hancock, IA) – A home explosion late Tuesday morning in Pottawattamie County is under investigation. According to reports, the home in rural Hancock was destroyed following an explosion and fire that occurred just before noon, Tuesday.

Firefighters from Hancock, with assistance from the Avoca and Minden Fire Departments, responded to the scene northwest of Hancock, at 27476 390th Street. Altogether, 13 pieces of fire equipment and nearly two-dozen firefighters were on-hand to deal with the event.

Reports say smoke and flames were visible following the explosion. A Pott. County Sheriff’s Deputy reporting debris was on the nearby roadway and scattered across a wide area of the property.

The home’s owner was outside when the home exploded. No injuries were reported.
