(An Iowa News Service story) – With the first day of public school classes on the horizon, healthcare providers are
recommending that parents have their children receive wellness visits in advance. Public school
classes typically get under way neat the end of August in Iowa, which means there’s a month left
to get your kids to the doctor. UnitedHealthcare’s Doctor Rhonda Randall says the checkups look
at many aspects of a child’s health.
Roughly 480-thousand K-12 students attend public schools in Iowa across 325 districts. While doctors look at many aspects of a child’s health, physical health may be a top priority for some students. Pediatricians can make sure that they’re healthy and ready for athletics.
Randall says that healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices at home can also help kids
perform well in the classroom.
