(Fort Dodge, IA) – Officials with the Fort Dodge Police Department, on Sunday, reported a man from Guthrie County faces a felony charge associated with a stabbing incident that occurred Saturday night, in Fort Dodge,
Authorities say following an investigation, 45-year-old David J. Richman, of Bayard, was charged with Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class-D Felony.
The Webster County Communications Center received a call at around 10:55 p..m., Saturday, August 8th, 2026, about an altercation between two males outside of the Star Convenience Store located at 1601 5th Ave S. in Fort Dodge. Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department and Deputies with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Once on scene officers located 18-year-old Dawson D. Skoland Rattray of Fort Dodge, suffering from a laceration to his right arm. Witnesses on scene advised that the suspect had fled prior to officer arrival. The officers on scene rendered aid to Mr. Skoland Rattray until the Fort Dodge Fire Department arrived. Mr. Skoland Rattray was transported by ambulance and then Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. It is believed that the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.
The Criminal Investigation Division was called in to assist patrol with the investigation. The scene was processed, and witnesses were interviewed. As the investigation continued to evolve, information came in about the possible location of the suspect. Officers responded to the location and detained the suspect (Richan) without incident. As with all cases, Mr. Richman is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
