DES MOINES, Iowa — A man from Guthrie County faces charges in connection with a fire last week in Des Moines. Authorities say 22-year-old Preston Virden, of Panora, was arrested on one count of Reckless Use of Fire and Explosives, following an investigation into garage fire Tuesday morning (March 31st), near a home on Goddard Court, in Des Moines.
Virden allegedly set a box on fire inside the detached garage, causing the fire to spread, and resulting in major damage to the garage. Authorities say Virden admitted setting the box on fire, but said he thought he had put it out before leaving.
