DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds has officially proclaimed the week of Aug. 10-14, 2026, as Safe + Sound Week in Iowa.
The IOSHA Division of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) recognizes this statewide initiative that aligns with the nationwide effort led by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to recognize the successes of workplace safety and health programs.
Safe + Sound Week serves as a critical period to promote effective strategies for keeping workers safe and healthy. The initiative highlights that robust safety programs are built upon three core elements: management leadership, active worker participation, and a systematic approach to identifying and fixing workplace hazards.
“Identifying hazards early, evaluating risks, and removing or controlling hazards before they cause harm are essential to preventing workplace injuries and illnesses,” the proclamation states.
Safety and health professionals across the state regularly provide training and education to help workers identify hazards. These professionals support management in addressing risks and engage safety committees in problem-solving and implementing corrective actions.
DIAL encourages all employers and workers to participate in Safe + Sound Week to strengthen their collective commitment to making Iowa a safe and healthy place to work.
“Every employee plays a vital role in this process by looking out for one another and promoting safe conditions,” said DIAL Interim Director Aaron Baack.
The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing is committed to protecting the health and safety of Iowans through regulation and oversight of health care, food, gaming, building and construction, and labor practices; professional licensure; application of administrative law; and investigation of Medicaid and welfare fraud.
