Firefighters in Creston battle wood & structure fires

(Creston, IA) – Officials with the Creston Fire Department say the Union County Dispatch Center received two calls just before 6-p.m., Monday, May 11th, reporting a fire in the 1400 block of Green Valley Rd., with one caller reporting a wood pile on fire. The fire department learned shortly after the first trucks were responding, that a structure was on fire. (Photos by Chuck Spindler – Creston FD via Facebook)

The first crews on the scene began to extinguish pallets and treated timbers that were stacked to the rear of a machine shed. Additional crews worked on the inside of the structure with water cans.

A skid loader was used to remove the wood a safe distance from the structure, allowing firefighters to remove the metal siding and gain access to the burning sill plate. Some plastic sheeting and styrofoam forms stored in the interior loft were scorched by the fire and removed by firefighters.

All crews returned to the station by 7:15 p.m
