(Denison, IA) – A plant near Denison that manufactures products for animal health was the scene of a fire late Thursday evening. According to a social media post by the Denison Volunteer Fire Association, the Denison, Vail, Manilla and Dow City-Arion Volunteer Fire Departments in Crawford County were called to the APC company off Highway 30, about five-miles southwest of Denison, at 6:45-p.m., Thursday. Officials say the middle building had a fire and that all personnel were had safely evacuated. Authorities say the fire was burning product inside the the hoppers and enclosed duct work, with the temperatures close to 200 degree Fahrenheit.
Inspection panels were unbolted and opened up to access the fire and spray water to extinguish the fire and cool-down the burning product. During the response, a gas utility representative was called to the scene to shut off gas service to the facility as a precaution. Firefighters also deployed more than 600 feet of hose from a nearby hydrant to supply water to apparatus and suppression efforts.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
