Fire at a SW IA Co-Op Wednesday afternoon

(Fremont County, IA) – Firefighters from numerous area departments battled a fire at the Heartland Co-Op at 109 Depot Street in Randolph, Wednesday afternoon. Crews responded after neighbors say an explosion and fire took place around 2:30-p.m. Sheriff’s deputies closed County Road J-18 on both the east and west ends of town while the blaze was underway, and only allowed access for a time to residents who live within the closure area, according to the City of Randolph’s Facebook page.

Firefighters from Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page counties as well as Nebraska City, NE. responded to the call for Mutual Aid in assisting the Randolph Fire Department. According to reports, arriving crews found one of the grain legs of the facility on fire. They were on the scene into late Wednesday evening.
