JOHNSTON, Iowa — The Iowa National Guard announces the return of the final five Soldiers deployed to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility, marking the completion of the return of Iowa National Guard personnel who served in the Middle East during the most recent deployment cycle.
The Soldiers, assigned to Detachment 6, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment (Operational Support Airlift Command), recently returned to the United States after supporting Operation Spartan Shield in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. Their return signifies that all Iowa Army National Guard Soldiers who deployed to the region during this deployment cycle have now safely returned home.
The returning Soldiers are assigned to the Operational Support Airlift Command (OSACOM), a specialized aviation organization within the U.S. Army responsible for providing high-priority, short-notice air transportation of personnel and cargo in support of Department of Defense missions around the world.

Major General Stephen Osborne, the Adjutant General of Iowa, said in a press release, “The return of these Soldiers marks the conclusion of a significant chapter of service for the Iowa National Guard in the Middle East. Throughout this deployment, our Soldiers demonstrated tremendous adaptability and professionalism while operating in an increasingly complex and evolving region. As mission requirements shifted and conditions changed, they continued to answer every challenge with dedication and expertise. Their service represents the strength, resilience and readiness of the Iowa National Guard, and we are proud to welcome them home.”
A formal recognition ceremony honoring these Soldiers will be held at a later date. Additional details will be announced when they become available.
