Fatal UTV accident in Harrison County

(Harrison County, IA) – A UTV rollover accident Saturday evening west of Magnolia, in Harrison County, resulted in one person being injured and a second person’s death. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2018 Polaris Ranger operated by 64-year old Kathleen Lynn Sterler, of Sheldon, was traveling east on Highway 127 at around 6:20-p.m., when for reasons unknown, the machine left the roadway and rolled-over.

A passenger in the UTV, 70-year-old William Kerwin Sterler, of Sheldon, was ejected in the crash and died from his injuries after being flown by LifeNet helicopter to the hospital in Missouri Valley. The Patrol says Kathleen Sterler was injured, but her injuries were believed to be non-life threatening. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and Mondamin Fire and Rescue Department assisted at the scene.

The accident remained under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
