The Iowa State Patrol reports two men died in separate crashes Monday afternoon. One of the accidents happened on eastbound Interstate 880 in Pottawattamie County, at around 4:30-p.m. The Patrol says a 2021 Subaru Legacy driven by 22-year-old Aaron Charles Roloff, of Minden, left the road and struck a bridge railing on the westbound side of I-880 before becoming airborne and landing on the creek bank below the bridge. The car came to rest upside down in Mosquito Creek. The State Patrol says Roloff was found deceased at the scene, still in the vehicle.
The other crash happened in Boone County, at around 2-p.m., Monday. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2022 Jeep Compass SUV driven by 34-year-old Bailey Jo Craven, of Des Moines, was traveling west on 190th Street about seven-miles northeast of Boone, when it entered the eastbound lane into the path of a 2020 Kenworth semi, driven by 26-year-old Wyatt Robert Corbin, of Boone.
The SUV hit the semi head-on before it came to rest in the south ditch on the driver’s side. The semi came to rest jack-knifed on the road, blocking both lanes of traffic. Bailey Jo Craven was transported from the scene by LifeFlight helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A passenger in the SUV, 37-year-old Tristan Kyle Nelson, of Ames, died at the scene of the crash. Both occupants of the Jeep were wearing their seat belts.
Both crashes remained under investigation.
