(Update 5:13-p.m.) Des Moines man dies following a pursuit/motorcycle crash Monday night

(Des Moines, IA) – A man who authorities say evaded a patrol car and later crashed in Des Moines, Monday night, has died from his injuries. The Iowa State Patrol says a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle operated by 47-year-old Adam May, of Des Moines, was traveling west on Euclid Avenue and sped-away from a patrol car, after a Trooper attempted to stop the motorcycle for a traffic violation.

The Patrol says May continued to drive in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed. He made several bad passes and attempted to cross 2nd Avenue against a red light, before being hit by a northbound 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo. As a result of the collision, Adam May was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported by Des Moines Fire/Rescue to Mercy Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The accident happened at around 11:10-p.m. The driver of the car was not injured.
