Death under investigation in Council Bluffs

(Council Bluffs, IA) – The Council Bluffs Police Department is investigating the death of a man whose body was found this (Thursday) morning at Bayliss Park. According to Bluffs Police Sgt. Michael Hernandez, Officers were dispatched just before 6-a.m. to the Park, located at 100 Pearl Street, following a report of an unresponsive male.

Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male deceased within the park grounds. Preliminary evidence at the scene indicates the individual died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence of foul play, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The identity of the deceased was being withheld as of this report, pending notification of next of kin. The Council Bluffs Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is currently handling the matter. No further details are available for release at this time.
