(Henry County, IA) Two people were injured when two pickup trucks collided Thursday evening, west of Mt. Pleasant. The Iowa State Patrol reports a pickup driven by 22-year-old Collin McDaniel Congdon, of Donnellson was traveling west on Highway 34, approaching Clayton Avenue in rural Henry County. A pickup driven by 82-year-old Ronald Wayne Welcher, of Mt. Pleasant was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Highway to travel northbound on Clayton Avenue, when Welcher failed to yield.
After the vehicles collided on westbound Highway 34, Welcher’s pickup came to rest in the westbound ditch. The other pickup came to rest on the southbound lanes of Clayton Avenue. The accident happened at around 6-p.m.
The Patrol says Welcher was flown from the scene to the University of Iowa Hospital. Collin Congdon was transported by ambulance to the Henry County Health Center.
