(Maryville, MO.) – A collision Tuesday afternoon (June 2nd) in northwest Missouri’s Nodaway County, resulted in a woman from Page County (IA) being transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. According to the Missouri State Patrol, the accident happened in a construction zone on southbound Highway 71, about 2-miles north of Maryville, at about 10:40-a.m.
The report says the accident occurred as a 2023 Chevy Traverse (SUV) driven by a 78-year-old man from Clarinda, was stopped at a temporary stop light in the construction zone. The driver of a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander (SUV) driven by a 39-year-old woman from Villisca, was distracted by her handheld cell phone, and was following too closely, before her vehicle struck the rear of the Chevy. Both vehicles came to rest on the road, facing east.
The Patrol says a 70-year-old female passenger in the Traverse, who was from Clarinda, was injured in the crash. The Missouri State Patrol does not release the names of accident victims. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Nodaway County, MO., Sheriff’s Office.
