(Radio Iowa) – A Cedar Rapids man who caught a specially tagged fish has won over 56-hundred dollars in the extended “Walleye Weekend” contest in the Iowa Great Lakes. Ken Williams caught the fish at about 10 a.m. last Friday on Big Spirit Lake. Morgan Strauss with the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce says there are eight tagged fish swimming around the Great Lakes and the contest has been extended until August 31st.
“One is worth $4235, so that’s 15% of the extended registration fees,” she says, “and then that second one is worth 10% and that’s $2823.” Over 23-hundred anglers registered to participate in this year’s competition and during the weekend it launched no one caught the tagged fish worth 44-thousand dollars.
During the extended competition, three prizes were made available, amounting to nearly 13-thousand dollars.
