Blank Park Zoo announces death of their tiger

(Des Moines, IA) – Officials with Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, Friday, said they were sad to report the passing of their 16-year-old Amur tiger, “Bronevik.” The Zoo said “Since his arrival in 2023, Bronevik quickly became a favorite and will be greatly missed by our team and guests.

“At 16 years old, beyond the median life expectancy for Amur tigers in human care, Bronevik was being monitored for age-related mobility issues. Last week, his health and mobility declined rapidly due to neurological concerns.” Zoo officials said on their social media page, that ” With his quality of life as our top priority, our veterinary and animal care teams made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him.” (Photo from the Blank Park Zoo Facebook page)

The Zoo said also, “Bronevik was loved by his care team and all who had the opportunity to see him. His carnivore care team shared, Bronevik was truly an incredible animal to work with. He was a powerful ambassador for his species, while also having an opinionated personality. We will always cherish moments watching him enjoy enrichment, especially playing with ice treats or relaxing in his water dish. He made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.”
