(Adair, IA) – Adair Fire and Rescue Chief Austin Ernst, this (Friday) afternoon, released information about a fatal fire that occurred Tuesday, June 2nd. Chief Ernst said in a new release, that Adair Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 3171 Frontier Road, north of Adair, at around 2:53-p.m., Tuesday.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the residence fully engulfed in flames. Crews initially prepared for a possible interior search and rescue operation. After conducting a size-up of the situation, the conditions at the residence were re-evaluated and entry to the structure was deemed unsafe for interior firefighting operations. Crews transitioned into a defensive strategy, and focused their efforts on extinguishing the fire from the exterior of the structure.
During the fire suppression efforts, an 85-year-old male occupant of the residence was found deceased inside the home. The man’s name was not released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Adair Fire and Rescue received Mutual Aid from the: Casey,, Guthrie Center, and Stuart Fire Departments. The Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Dispatch centers along with Iowa State Patrol also provided assistance during the incident.
