(Radio Iowa) – Tuesday is August 11th or 8-11 numerically and the day you are reminded to call before you dig. Iowa One Call’s Ben Booth says it’s easy to check for underground utilities before you dig.
Booth says the call isn’t optional.
He says the 24 hours does NOT include the day of notice, Saturdays, Sundays or legal holidays. Booth says it’s important to call, even if you are digging in your own front yard.
He says you can face fines if you strike an underground pipe or cable without calling. And you can also be seriously hurt if you hit something like an electric line or gas line. You just dial 8-1-1 or you can also go online to IowaOneCall.com to fill out your request a check for underground utilities before you dig.
