(State News) – The Iowa State Patrol reports five people were injured during three separate crashes over the past couple of days. Two of the crashes occurred in northern Iowa.
The Patrol says late Tuesday night (June 30th), a 23-year-old from Richfield, MN, was injured in a Hamilton County crash between two small SUV’s. The unidentified individual was driving a 2020 Chevy Trax that struck a 2015 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 53-year-old from Ames. The accident happened as the Toyota was traveling south on Interstate 35 near mile marker 147. Authorities say the Chevy struck the RAV4 on the rear driver’s side. After the impact, the Toyota came to rest half-way on the outside shoulder of I-35. The Chevy crossed the on-ramp and entered a ditch before it rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top in a field. The driver of the Chevy SUV – who was wearing a seat belt – was transported to the hospital by Webster City EMS. No names were released.
The State Patrol says the drivers of a car and a pickup truck were injured Monday afternoon (June 29th) in northern Iowa’s Mitchell County, when the vehicles collided on Highway 9. Authorities say a 2008 Pontiac Solstice driven by 66-year-old Jay Schaub, of Grafton, was traveling westbound on Highway 9 at around 4:05-p.m., when the car collided with the rear of a 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 37-year-old Hakkoin Rosendahl, of Osage.
The car then collided head-on with an eastbound 2019 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by 43-year-old Jason Elgin, of Rudd. The Patrol says Schaub suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to the Mitchell County Regional Hospital. Jason Elgin suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to the same hospital. The other driver was not injured. The crash remained under investigation.
And, in southeast Iowa, two people were transported to the University of Iowa Hospital after two SUV’s collided in Keokuk Monday afternoon. The Patrol says a 2012 Jeep Patriot was stopped at the intersection of McKinley Avenue & Main at around 1:15-p.m., and attempting to turn westbound onto Main Street. A 2012 Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound on Main Street. When the Jeep entered the intersection, it was struck by the Nissan. Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound lane of Main Street, east of McKinley Avenue.
A 2005 Dodge RAM pickup driven by 76-year-old Jan Snodgrass, of Keokuk, was traveling west on Main Street. Snodgrass tried to stop, but was unable to do so before her pickup struck the Nissan. The names of the other drivers were not immediately released.
