3 separate accidents in Guthrie County last week

(Guthrie Center, IA) – There were three separate accidents in Guthrie County last week, but no one was injured. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, one of the accidents happened at around 8:10-p.m. April 23rd, in the 3000 block of Highway 141, between Victory Avenue and Herron Road. Authorities say an SUV and a pickup were traveling west on Highway 141 when the SUV, driven by a 17-year-old make from Panora, rear-ended the pickup, driven by 50-year-old Steven Louis Anthofer, of Carroll.

The pickup stopped at the scene following the collision, but the SUV turned south and kept driving. A Deputy initiated a traffic stop on vehicle, and upon further investigation, cited the teenage driver for Leaving the Scene of a property damage accident, and following too close. The teen admitted to being tired, and having nodded-off before the accident occurred. Damage from the collision amounted to $3,000 altogether, according to the report.

The second accident happened April 22nd at around 2:10-a.m., on Yellow Avenue in Guthrie County. Authorities say a 2022 Case Magnum tractor driven by a 16-year-old from Guthrie Center, was traveling north on Yellow Avenue and towing a manure tanker, when the tanker began to fish-tail and rolled into the east ditch. The tractor did NOT roll over.

The tanker spilled about 5,000 gallons of manure on the gravel road. Officials contacted the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The report states the tractor was owned by Bret Hodges and the manure tanker was owned by Brad Enterprise. Damage from the accident amount to an estimated $100,000.

And, an accident that occurred at around 6:25-p.m. on April 22nd caused an estimated total of $6,000 damage. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says a Panora Fiber-owned 2019 Chevy pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Reid Huntley, of Panora, was traveling south on Highway 4, when the vehicle rear-ended a 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup, driven by 68-year-old Ted Reeve, of Panora. No citations were issued.
