3 accidents in Guthrie County: No injuries reported

(Guthrie Center, IA) – The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports three accidents occurred over the past week, but no one was injured. On Memorial Day (May 25th), at around 10:45-p.m., a car driven by 18-year-old Nathaniel Lee Spencer, of Yale, was traveling east on 150th Street in Guthrie County, near Highway 4, when the vehicle went out of control and entered the south ditch. After striking the ditch, the car re-entered the roadway and came to rest in the north ditch. The Sheriff’s report said Spencer was traveling too fast for conditions. No citations were issued, though. Damage to his vehicle amounted to an estimated $6,000.

Sunday night (May 24th), a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Olivia Mabel Orth, of Ankeny, was traveling south on Highway 25 near the intersection of 250th Street, when a deer ran out of the east ditch and struck the 2017 Chevy Cruz on the driver’s side, causing an estimated $1,500 damage.

And, at around 5-p.m. on May 20th, a 2012 Mazda passenger vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male from Panora, struck the rear of a 2022 Jeep Compass (SUV) driven by 20-year-old Madalyn Sue Childs, of Altoona. Her vehicle had stopped behind a truck that was pulling a boat and turning west onto Chimra Road. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office said the teen driver failed to stop in-time before the collision, and was cited for the moving violation. Damage from the accident amounted to approximately $3,000 altogether. The Mazda was declared a total loss.
