FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa – Two 16-year-olds and an 11-year-old were injured Wednesday afternoon during a crash east of Oelwein. The accident happened in the area of Highway 3 and I Avenue around 2:30 p.m. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the 16-year-old driver of a2011 Ford Fusion was attempted to turn left (North) onto I Avenue from Highway 3, in front of a westbound pickup truck, when the car was struck by the pickup.
The Patrol says the driver of the car was using an electronic communication device at the time. That person and his 11-year-old passenger, are from Stanley (IA). The Patrol says the other 16-year-old, who was also a passenger, is from Oelwein.
All three individuals were taken to the hospital in Oelwein for treatment of their injuries. A report on their conditions was not available.
