(Webster County, IA) – Two people were injured Sunday afternoon when a train collided with a car in Webster County, temporarily shutting down roads in the area. The Iowa State Patrol said the crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Lincoln Street in Gowrie when a Union Pacific train struck the passenger side of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 45-year-old Dirk Janssen, of Colo (IA).
The car was traveling eastbound on Lincoln Street, when the collision happened at around 3:20-p.m. Janssen, and his passenger, 62-year-old Mary Harrison, also of Colo, were injured. Janssen was taken by Gowrie EMS to Trinity Hospital in Fort Dodge. Harrison was taken by LifeFlight helicopter, to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Gowrie Fire & EMS, the Gowrie Police Department, and Webster County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted at the scene.
