2 injured in a central Iowa collision Saturday night

(Jasper County, IA) – A collision between a car and an SUV Saturday night in Jasper County, resulted in both drivers being sent of local hospitals. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 9:55-p.m. at the intersection of Highway 163 and Prairie Avenue, in Prairie City.

The Patrol says a 2007 Chevy Impala driven by 19-year-old Aden Vanekeren, of Prairie City, was traveling south on Prairie Avenue, approaching the intersection with Highway 163, when it entered the road and struck a 2021 Subaru Outback, driven by 22-year-old Paige Trunnel, of Ankeny.

Following the impact, both vehicles came to an uncontrolled resting position in the median west of the intersection, according to the report. Aden Vanekeren was flown from the scene to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, and subsequently flown to the University of Iowa Hospital. Paige Trunnel was able to transport herself to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

A report on both drivers’ conditions was not released.
