2 hurt in a collision Tuesday morning in Pella

(Marion County, IA) – Two people were transported to hospitals in southeastern Iowa Wednesday morning, following a collision in Pella. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2023 Hyundai Sante Fe (SUV) driven by 59-year-old Sandra Kay Mullins, of Trumann, AZ was traveling westbound on Washington Street in Pella, at the same time a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica van driven by 37-year-old Syndee Marie Van Wyk, of Pella, was traveling eastbound.

For reasons unknown, the SUV crossed the centerline of the road and struck the van head-on. The accident happened at around 9:45-a.m.

The Patrol says CPR was performed on Mullins, who was subsequently flown by Mercy Air helicopter to MercyOne Hospital. Van Wyk was transported by Pella EMS to the hospital in Pella.

A report on both drivers’ conditions was not released. The accident remained under investigation.
