2 fatality crashes in eastern Iowa

(UPDATED 8/10) – The Iowa State Patrol reports two people died in separate crashes this weekend, in eastern Iowa. A pursuit Saturday night (Aug. 8th) in Linn County resulted in a crash south of Fairfax, in Linn County. The Patrol says Linn County Deputies were pursuing a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Robert Oppenheimer, of Olin (IA) southbound on Lefebure Road, when it failed to stop at the stop sign with Wright Brothers Boulevard. The vehicle left the road and crashed. The accident happened at around 9:17 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.

The other fatal crash happened at around 2-a.m. Saturday, on eastbound Highway 20. The Iowa State Patrol said one person died and two people are hurt in the crash that occurred as a Toyota Prius and a Honda CRV that were parked in the Eastbound shoulder of Highway 20 at mile marker 286, when they were hit by a Chevy Equinox.

24-year-old Isaac Gill, of Dubuque, died in the incident. Two others were hurt and taken to local hospitals. The accident is under investigation.
