(Guthrie Center, IA) – The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports two accidents took place last week. One of the accidents resulted in possible injuries two the driver’s involved. The accident occurred at around 8:12-a.m. Thursday, May 14th. The Sheriff’s Office says a 2023 KIA driven by 37-year-old Jordan Salazar, of Dexter, was traveling eastbound on White Pole Road, following a non-contact vehicle (a tractor) mowing the road ditch.
A 2013 GMC SUV driven by 69-year-old Jeffrey Sackett, of Menlo, was traveling eastbound on White Pole Road and came upon the KIA, which was traveling at a slower speed, due to the the non-contact tractor in the area. When the KIA came upon a No Passing Zone, the GMC failed to maintain control, and failed to stop in an assured-clear distance. The SUV struck the rear of the KIA. Both drivers complained of pain/possible injury. Salazar was transported from the scene by his mother.
Damage from the collision amounted to an estimated $29,000 altogether, according to the sheriff’s report. Jeffrey Sackett was cited for Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance.
The second accident happened at around 3:36-p.m. on May 15th. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports a 2011 Chevy Colorado pickup truck driven by a 14-year-old male from Guthrie Center, was pulling-out of a parking position in the AC/GC High School parking lot. He didn’t see a 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by an 18-year-old male from Adair, before the his pickup struck the Silverado broadside.
Damage from the collision amounted to an estimated $4,000 altogether. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.
