1 person injured in a NW IA UTV vs. semi tractor-trailer collision Tue. night

(Lyon County, IA) – A collision between a UTV and a parked semi tractor-trailer Tuesday night (April 21st) in northwest Iowa, resulted in the operator of the UTV being flown to a hospital with serious injuries. The Iowa State Patrol reports the accident happened southeast of Doon, at around 8:37-p.m.

The report says a 2023 Polaris UTV being operated by 19-year-old Levi Maassen, of Doon, was traveling south on Grant Avenue near 270th Street, when the UTV struck a 2013 Peterbilt Semi that was parked on the west shoulder, off-loading fertilizer. Following the collision, the UTV came to rest in the east ditch, upside down.

Maassen was transported by Sanford Airmed to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. The driver of the semi, 26-year-old Alan Baker, of Pipestone, MN, was outside of the vehicle when the collision occurred, and was not injured.
