(Mitchell County, IA) – Two people were ejected from a UTV during a crash Saturday evening southwest of Rock Creek, in northern Iowa’s Mitchell County. One of the individuals became trapped under the vehicle and had to be flown to a hospital in Minnesota for treatment of their injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2018 Mahindra Roxor side-by-side UTV operated by 34-year-old Joseph Smith, of Mason City, was traveling west on Mitchell Line Street at around 7:55-p.m, near Foothill Avenue, when the UTV moved over for an oncoming vehicle. The machine left the road on the passenger side before striking a culvert and rolling onto its side.
A passenger in the UTV, 53-year-old Billi Dodge, of Rock Falls, IA, was pinned under the vehicle and extricated before being flown by MercyOneAir to the Mayor Clinic in Rochester, MN, for treatment of what were described at life-threatening injuries.
